MYPlace
In 2010, the three Churches of Scotland joined together to reach out to the young people of Montrose, employing a part time Youth and Family Worker funded by the Church of Scotland. After some time the team managed to raise further funding to make the job full time. With the recent Presbytery reorganisation, the post is now fully funded by the church of Scotland. At present this post is vacant.
Shona Barakat ran MYPlace for three years until she moved on to another post recently. Toddler and Carer playgroups are still running on Mondays in Trinity Ferryden Hall and on Thursdays in Philos Community Hub, both in term time. The Monday group restarts on 26th August and the Thursday one on 29th August 2024.
MYChat'n'Play was a weekly lunchtime event in the playground of one of the Primary schools when Shona got to know the children and vice versa. Scripture Union's Bible Alive courses have been another success story in two of our Primary schools where Shona and helpers have delivered them as part of the curriculum. Hopefully this work will continue if volunteers can be found.
A Lego Club was able to run again during the summer holidays at Philos Hub thanks to volunteers from the three hubs. It isn't known whether the Lego clubs in two primary schools during term time will be able to continue meantime. Lego has such all age appeal that Lego Church has been established for families, running in Trinity Steeple Halls every 5-6 weeks on Sundays 4-5pm, with a bible story, Lego building and a snack. The first one of this new session is on Sunday 25th August.
But adults have been catered for too - Pottery and Pudding nights for the mums and all family members and a curry night for all adults.
Look at the calendar (via the Activities Page) to see when events are taking place. Just come along - families are always welcome.
