Plans drawn up for potential development of Ferryden Church Hall site

Updated: Aug 12, 2022

MS&F Church was formed in 2016 with the union of Melville South Church (Montrose) and Inchbrayock Church (Ferryden). The Union created a surplus of buildings which over the last 6 years we have slowly been working our way through how to resolve. The former sanctuary of the Melville South Church was sold to another denomination and the halls retained and refurbished to create the Philos Community Hub. That work is nearing completion and so our thoughts have turned one more to our building stock in Ferryden. There has been some toing and froing over the years but we have recently considered that the best option for the Church and community in Ferryden is to develop the Church Hall site.

The halls are currently well used by Church and community and the site is more accessible within the village.

Earlier this year we engaged Montrose architects KSA to draw up initial plans for the development of the site. The plans provide for an extension to the side of the hall to create a new entrance, gathering area (with potential to be a regular semi commercial cafe), kitchen and toilets. The main hall would be refurbished with the removal of the stage, the opening up of the ceiling and the provision of access from the new extension. To the rear the small hall would be given a floor level window and has the potential for an additional upper floor. The existing kitchen would become a store and and the current toilet block demolished.

The site is challenging because of the multiple levels within it. The proposal is for ramped access into the centre of the building with a small lift to provide access to the rear hall.

Outside a small area would be retained as garden ground and the flat roof to the new extension could accommodate a green roof.

The plans are below as well as 3D fly through video - comments are welcome and are actively being sought.
